Theoretically, Bluetooth signals can travel 100m but, in reality, the range is much less.

There are so many factors that can decrease the signal’s range that it is basically impossible for us to predict with certainty whether [cl] will work effectively in your situation.

What kind of fridge do you have?

If you are measuring temperatures in a glass-doored vaccine fridge, the signal passes through very easily, and you should have no trouble at all. This is why our Starter Kit is ideally suited to vaccine fridges,

CleverLogger-with-External-Probe-on-cool-room
Having the Logger outside the coolroom eliminates signal loss from the metal walls.

If you are trying to get a signal out of a large commercial coolroom, the story can be quite different – these large metal boxes are very good at containing the signal. By placing the Logger close to the door and the Gateway nearby on the outside, it is usually possible to get a decent signal through the rubber door seal. However, a better solution, if it is possible, is to drill a small hole in your coolroom/freezer wall and use the Logger with External Probe instead. This means you can usually create a clear line of sight to the Gateway and enjoy a strong signal.

Connecting your Gateway to wi-fi means you can place it as close to the Logger as possible

The advantage of [cl] over other systems is that the Gateway can use your office wi-fi to connect to the internet, rather than being tethered to a network cable.

You can place your Gateway right next to the Logger for optimum connection.
